A “Showerthought” is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you’re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else

How are rules enforced and bans applied?## For the most part, this community operates under the assumption that users are acting in good faith and should be given second-chances for their mistakes. Posts and comments with very light rule violations, or otherwise undesired but mostly harmless content, can be removed by a moderator on a case by case basis without any further punitive actions. For violations of our rules, we follow a “3 strike” system as follows: - 1st violation: 72 hours ban + moderator warning via PMs. - 2nd violation: 1 week ~ 1 month ban + final warning via PMs. - 3rd violation: 1 month ~ permanent ban. The goal of this system is making sure users are made aware of their behavior before being permanently banned, but also protecting the community from any rule violations. This is like r/AskOuija, but for lemmy; not affiliated to the r/AskOuija though.
What is this “Ouija” thing?
Ouija here is referring to the Ouija Board that used to communicate with spirits and it look something like this:
To play the Ouija board to communicate with spirits, one needs to place one’s fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words letter by letter, and then finally, “goodbye”. This is the part we refer as Ouija Style.
Technically saying, there is usually also “yes” and “no”, but including them in commenting makes it less fun to comment, so usually we don’t do that here.
This is generally how Ouija Style works. Hope you have fun commenting, spirits!

If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

1. Be Civil
Attack ideas, not people. “Asshole” is the only insult allowed here. No harassment, threats, or discrimination against any group. Don’t try to diagnose people with mental or physical health issues. Assume good intent. Don’t claim posts are fake or that people are seeking validation. Report rule breaks instead of arguing about them. Upvote interesting discussions, don’t downvote just because you disagree. Do not share personal information about others without their consent. No doxing or attempts to identify or harass people outside this community.
2. Poster Requirements
You must be at least 18 years old to post here. You’re here for judgment, not to argue. Clarify facts if needed, but don’t debate with commenters. Use descriptive titles starting with “AITA” or “WIBTA.” Don’t delete your post for at least 48 hours. Use a throwaway account if you’re worried about privacy. Accounts that promote subscription services are not allowed.
3. No Violence
Do not mention violence in any way. This includes physical violence, threats, property damage, harm to animals, self harm, suicide, sexual misconduct, or jokes about violence. No visual content depicting violence, gore, murder, or sexual assault.
4. No Fake Posts or AI
Posts must describe real conflicts you’re involved in. Do not use AI to write, edit, translate, or modify your posts or comments. This includes ChatGPT, Grammarly, Gemini, Copilot, and similar tools. No made up stories, TV plots, thought experiments, or copy pastas. Violations may lead to a ban.
5. Banned Topics
No politics, medical conflicts, revenge stories, or topics that always lead to the same arguments. No illegal content. No misinformation that could cause physical harm to people. Retired topics include airplane seating, inheritance, splitting restaurant bills, relationships, and violence.
6. Post Real Conflicts Between People
Posts must focus on real world conflicts between people you know in real life. Include what action you took and how the other person responded. No online conflicts or conflicts with businesses, employees, or bosses.
7. Updates and Meta Posts are Restricted
Updates require mod approval and must explain how you resolved the conflict. This isn’t a saga sub. Limit yourself to three or four posts per year. Meta posts about the community go in the monthly open forum.
8. No Breakups, Relationships, Sex, or Reproductive Posts
No posts about breakups, reducing contact, dating, sex, infidelity, abortion, reproduction, or sexual content involving minors or significant age gaps.
9. Mod Discretion
Moderators can remove posts, comments, or ban users even if something isn’t explicitly covered in these rules. Message mods politely if you disagree with a removal.

Q: Why do I get a 404?
A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.
Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?
A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn’t get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn’t actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
This is a community in the spirit of “Am I The Asshole” where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance’s code of conduct. In other words we won’t allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

This community is for:
News, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge the narratives which act as legitimations for the status quo of modern class society. Posts need not be about capitalism specifically, whether late-stage or otherwise; we simply aim to cater to a socialist audience.
We do allow links to threads and comments on Lemmy/Reddit, as long as they are relevant to the content guidelines and follow the rules. Use NP links, or your post will be deleted.
Philosophy:
This community has its roots in broad-based anti-capitalist thought, with an emphasis on Marxist concepts and analysis and a commitment to antiracism and inclusive feminism.
When it comes to proposed alternatives to Capitalism, it is the general consensus of this community that class-divisions and alienated labour must be abolished; production must be collectively organized by the laborers themselves for the direct benefit of all. We call this socialism.

Rules:
1. Lemmygrad-wide rules apply. Behavior such as brigading and harassment won’t be permitted. Neither will posts that can be interpreted as explicit threats of/calls for violence.
2. Any post that makes a claim should have a RELIABLE source or explanation in the comments by OP. All claims, news articles, tweets and so forth that are an example of LSC should be substantiated with a reliable, factual and verifiable source. Any posts that egregiously break this rule will have their poster temporarily banned. If the Automoderator deletes the comment with sources that’s fine, the moderators can still see and restore it.
3. No trolling. “I was just trolling” won’t be accepted as a defense for breaking rules, and we will ban for intentionally disruptive behavior or attacks on our community, users, or philosophy.
4. No capitalist apologia, anti-socialism, or liberalism. This community is intended for a socialist audience, and while good faith questions are allowed, pushing your own counter-narrative here is not. We do not allow support here for capitalism or for the parties or ideologies that uphold it. We are not a liberal or (U.S.-/Social-) Democrat community; we are a socialist community.
5. No imperialism, conservatism, reactionism or zionism. This includes not just ideologies to the right of liberalism but also right-wing fixations such as national/ethnic/cultural chauvinism and military/police worship regardless of the underlying ideology. We take no side in the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
6. No “lesser evil” rhetoric. Lesser-evil rhetoric in relation to elections or current policies is prohibited. Dismissing voting third party because they are “useless” or because you are “throwing your vote away” also violates this rule. It also encompasses saying Trump is “worse” for Gaza, as that place is already completely destroyed. Trump is merely carrying out what the American ruling class started under Biden. Resorts being built and mass relocation were already happening under Biden and Kamala would’ve continued it.
7. No bigotry. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or classism. The respect for readers who are subject to these forms of bigotry takes priority in this community over your right to speak freely.
8. Be nice to each other. Be respectful towards other socialists you disagree with, but also non-socialists who follow the rules and participate in good faith. Feel free to dunk on trolls, bigots and bootlickers to your heart’s content.
9. Bans are at moderator discretion. We reserve the right to eject users (as well as remove, lock, or otherwise moderate any content on the community) for reasons not listed if we consider it necessary to do so.
10. Don’t bother sending us personal promotion requests. We are not an advertising platform for your blog or YouTube channel.
